Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has agreed to sign a new long-term contract with the club.

The 20 year old, one of the stars of the England under-21 side that won the European Championships earlier this summer, has two years left on his current deal with Stamford Bridge.

He had been linked with a move to Brighton, the club with whom he spent last season on loan.

The South Coast club have had several bids for him rejected, and then were insisting that any deal involving Ecuadorean midfielder Moises Caicedo should include Colwill in part exchange.

However, such speculation is now at an end, with Colwill having been promised that there is a path into the first team at his parent club.

His new contract, which is reputed to be of six year duration, will be worth in excess of £100,000.

The deal has not yet been finalised, but negotiations are at an advanced stage.
