Chelsea want Dean Henderson as their goalkeeper next season and have asked Manchester United to name their price.
Frank Lampard is in the market for a new keeper, with continuing doubts over the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has failed to live up to his billing as the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.
However, Dean Henderson is a Manchester United player, and they have a big decision to make about his future. He is under contract at Old Trafford until 2022 and is regarded as a future number one at the club.
At the same time, he is unlikely to be content playing back-up to David de Gea next season, with his involvement limited to just cup games. They may not want to sell him to a direct rival but know also that they can command serious money for him which they could use to rebuild their squad in other areas.
Henderson has had a fine season at Sheffield United, keeping 12 clean sheets, including on Saturday evening as Chris Wilder’s side beat Chelsea 3 – 0 at Bramall Lane.
