Chelsea have generated the most money from players reared in their academy system of any club in England.i
That is according to a report published by the highly respected independent consultancy firm CIES Football Observatory which looks at the most income clubs have generated since July 2015 from transfers of players who came up via their youth ranks.
According to them, Chelsea have generated €210 (£176) million in that period from the sale of former youth players, with the highest, in percentage terms (21%), being the sum they realised last summer when they sold Tammy Abraham to Roma.
Two places below them on the list are Liverpool, although their figures are heavily skewed by the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City, followed by Manchester City and Arsenal.
At €2.03 (£1.7) billion, English clubs have generated the most form the sale of academy layers, but the most successful individual club is Portuguese side Benfica, who have generated €379 (£318) million from such sales.
