Chelsea have agreed to meet the ₤30 million release clause of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

The 22-year old was a player in demand, with Manchester United, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United among the clubs to have shown an interest in him already, whilst former club Manchester City had a buy-back option.

But his preference was always to join Chelsea and now his wish is to be fulfilled.

Delap, the son of former professional footballer Rory Delap, is a former Manchester City academy player who only joined newly promoted Ipswich at the start of last season. He scored 12 goals in 40 appearances for them, but could not prevent them being relegated back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

However, he was never likely to go down with them.

His contract contained a release clause allowing him to leave if they were relegated, and Chelsea have now triggered this.
