Chelsea striker Deivid Washington will spend the rest of the season on loan back in his mative Brazil.
He has joined Santos, where he will get the chance to play alongside Neymar, who has rejoined his boyhood club after his injury-hit stay in Saudi Arabia was terminated last month.
It is hoped that 18 year-old Washington will now gain the sort of valuable experience which has beeb denied him in West London.
Washington joined Chelsea from Santos in August 2023, as part of their strategy of buying up the best of young South American talent. But since then he has made just three substitute appearances for the first team, and, despite Chelsea’s current lack of options in forward positions, he is not judged ready for the Premier League.
Although the Brazilian season extends from the end of March to December, Chelsea have inserted a clause in the loan arrangement allowing to recall the player when the European summer transfer window opens.
