Chelsea are considering recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.
It follows injuries to both Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badishile, which meant that 18-year old Josh Acheampong was handed a first league start when Chelsea played Palace at Selhurst Park at the weekend.
Both Toisin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi, who can play centre-back, were left on the bench.
Fofana may well be out for the rest of the season, according to manager Enzo Maresca, which could prompt a recall for Chalobah, who had been frozen out under Maresca, but has since revived his career since moving to South London. And it has been confirmed that there is a clause in his contract which would allow Chelsea to terminate his loan prematurely.
The alternative for the Stamford Bridge club would be to dip into the market to sign another central defender, something they are prepared to do for the right target.
