Celtic linked with January move for Wanyama

Celtic have been linked with a move in January for their former player, Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama.

The 28-year old Kenyan international appeared ready to leave White Hart Lane this summer after falling down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino. Belgian side Club Brugge made a £13 million bid for him, but the deal fell through over the player’s reluctance to return to the Jupiler League, where he started his professional career with Beerschot.

The Scottish champions were also rumoured to be in the hunt for him, and that has now been confirmed by their manager Neil Lennon, who has also hinted at a new approach for the player when the transfer window opens again.

Lennon said “”There was interest but it never got off the ground.

“Could we look at it again in January? We’ll have to wait and see.”

Wanyama played for Celtic between 2011 and 2013, during which time he established himself as a favourite of the club’s fans. He won two Premier League titles and a Scottish League Cup with the Hoops, and was named SPL Young Player of the Year for 2013m before moving south of the border to join Southampton.
