Caballero signs Chelsea extension

Goalkeeper Willy Caballero has signed a year-long contract extension with Chelsea which will keep him at the West London club until June 2021.

The 38 year out Argentine was out of contract on June 30th, and could have left as a free agent, but now his immediate future has been secured

He joined Chelsea in 2017 on a free transfer from Manchester City, and has largely been deployed as a back-up to Kepa Arrizabalega. However, in February, the Spaniard was dropped by Frank Lampard after a series of disappointing displays, and Caballero not only took his place, but kept it as well.

Caballero, who has five full caps for Argentina, has won FA Cup and Europa League winners’ medals during his time with Chelsea.

When, and if the season resumes, it will be interesting to note who Lampard starts between the sticks in the first game back for the side currently fourth in the Premier League.
