Serie A side Atalanta have turned down a bid by Manchester United for centre-back Cristian Romero.
The 23-year old Argentine international is wanted by a number of Europe’s top clubs after stand-out season for his club who finished third in Serie A lasty season. He was named Serie A defender of eh season.
United offered £39 million for him, but that has been rebuffed with Atalanta holdout out for £52 million.
Romero is currently on loan to Atalanta from Juventus, but they have the option to buy him for £21.5 million which they are expected to do, and then will look to make a quick profit in him.
United are looking for a long-term partner for Harry Maguire, and Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane end Jules Koundé have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
