Arteta outlines transfer strategy

Mikel Arteta may have seen Arsenal move into the Champions League places with their win at Watford on Sunday, but admits that his team still have a long way to improve.

And, irrespective of where they finally finish this season, he is aware that there is much to do if they want to reach the next level.

That is why he is expected to oversee another busy summer of spending at the Emirates as they look to close the gap on those above.

It has been four years since the club last played Champions League football, and, having finished eighth in the last two campaigns, returning to Europe is now a minimum return expected from this season.

However, Arteta knows that not only does he need greater depth in his squad, but the overall quality of the players at his disposal needs to be better if he has any hopes of mounting a sustained challenge to the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League.
