Jorginho contract extension talks stall

Talks about Italian midfielder Jorginho extending his contract at the Emirates have stalled.

The 31 year old was signed from Chelsea in the January transfer window, initially on an 18 month deal, although that did include the option to extend that by a further year.

Although Mikel Arteta is reported to be a big fan of Jorginho, he has only started four of the club’s Premier League games this season and, when everybody is fully fit, he is more likely regarded as a replacement from the bench.

The player himself has indicated his wish to return to Italy at some time, and, although he insists that his immediate focus is on Arsenal, that has not stopped several Serie A clubs already showing an interest, with AC Milan among them.

With Jorginho, Thomas Partey and Mohammed Elneny all the wrong side of 30 now, Arsenal may be looking for a rejuvenation of their central midfield options ahead of next season.
