Arsenal’s decision not to bring in an extra forward player in January looks like it has back-fired spectacularly.
Already left short-handed upfront by injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, they lost Gabriel Martinelli to a hamstring injury the day after the window closed, and he is now expected to be out of action for a month.
And now the club has been rocked by the news that Kai Havertz has been injured on their warm weather tour of Dubai, and may not play again this season.
That leaves the Gunners left with only Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling and Ethan Nwaneri as their only recognised striker options, and one is a shadow of his former self, and the other still just 17 years old.
This problem is entirely of the club’s own making and whilst there may be a temptation to rush Sake back before he is ready, that carries a substantial risk with it that he could get injured again, and this time more seriously.
