Arsenal have been linked, among a number of other clubs, with Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
They are in the market for a back-up goalkeeper for David Raya, with their long pursuit of Espanyol’s Joan García ended with the 24 year old’s decision to join Barcelona instead.
Kepa is now back at Stamford Bridge having spent a successful season on loan with Bournemouth in the Premier League.
He has a release clause of just ₤5 million, a far cry from the record fee paid for a goalkeeper when he first moved to West London from Athletic Bilbao.
Whilst the deal makes sense from a financial viewpoint, it is not clear whether Kepa would just accept a backup role at a new club, even though he would almost certainly play in cup ties.
And there is also the aversion of some Arsenal fans to signing another Chelsea player, given the mixed track record in that respect. Whilst Jorginho and Kai Havertz proved successful imports, the less said about Willian’s and Raheem Sterling’s time at the Emirates the better.
