Arsenal identify Ozil replacement

Arsenal have identified the man they want to replace out-of-favour Mesut Ozil in the shape of Real Madrid’s Martin Ǿdegaard, currently on loan with Real Sociedad.

The Gunners want to offload Ozil in January, even if just on loan, and are prepared to subsidise part of his £350,000 weekly wage for any club willing to take him.

And the man they want to replace him is Norwegian Ǿdegaard, who made headlines across Europe when he was snapped up as a 16 year old by Real, after breaking a number of records as a teenager in his native country. He struggled to adapt to life in Spain and was sent out on loan to Holland, where he subsequently rehabilitated his career.

Returning to Spain at the start of this season with Sociedad, he has made an immediate impact with his new club, and was named their player of the month for January.

However, his £71 million release clause could prove to be a sticking point.
