Arsenal and City go head-to-head for midfielder

Not only are Manchester City and Arsenal going head-to-head for the title as the Premier League goes down to the last day of the season, but they are both competing to sign the same player in the transfer window.

It has been reported that both clubs have made contact with the representatives of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães.

Whilst Newcastle do not want to sell him, they could be left with little choice, because he has a release clause of ₤100 million which comes into force from the end of the season until the last day of June.

And he may not cost quite that much. Newcastle are prepared to listen to offers for him in excess of ₤80 million if they come from a club that can offer him Champions League football next season.

Whether Arsenal want to enter into another bidding war with City, though is another issue. Both competed to sign Declan Rice last summer, and although the Gunners ended up winning that battle, they arguably were forced to pay more for the midfielder than they would have wanted.
