Despite Chelsea’s injury crisis at the back, it seems unlikely that Axel Disasi will be recalled from exile in the bomb squad.
Disasi remains frozen out, training separately, along with Raheem Sterling, away from the first team.
The pair have been forced to train in the evenings, and, although they have been assigned a designated fitness coach, their plight has been highlighted by the PFA (Professionla Footballers’ Association).
Manager Enzo Maresca, though, remains unsympathetic, and recently commented that his father, who is a fisherman, has a tougher life.
Nevertheless, the treatment of the pair appears counter-productive. Training in such circumstances lacks the competitive edge of a normal session, and the longer the pair spend isolated, the less match fit they become.
And that also means that they become less of an asset to be sold or loaned when the January transfer window opens and more of a liability.
Disasi remains under contract until 2029, which is a very long time to keep paying his salaty every week.
