Arsenal are ready to make William Saiiba the highest paid player in the club’s history.
The Gunners have been locked in negotiations with the French defender and his agents over a contract extension, and with Real Madrid apparently waiting in the wings to sign him.
However, Mikel Arteta has informed the club’s board that he is a key part of his future plans and that they should do everything in their powers to keep him, with the offer now being prepared around the ₤300,000 a week level.
They have taken him at his word, and the French international has now agreed a new five year deal, which will keep hi at the Emirates until 2030.
Although his current deal runs until 2027, the Gunners knew that the longer they leave it, the weaker their position became, and this assumed the status of a priority issue for them.
At the same time, they also know that there is a risk of wage inflation. Bukayo Saka is also in talks over a new deal, and he will, at least, be seeking parity with Saliba.
