Chelsea want to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton in the January transfer window.
They want to add depth to Enzo Maresca’s squad, and there are also doubts over the ability of Romeo Lavia to stay fit. Although highly rated at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian has suffered persistent injuries during his time at the club, and has spent more time in the treatment room than he has on the pitch.
Signed from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024, Wharton has established himself as one of the finest central midfielders in the Premier League, known for his reading of the game, football intelligence and ability on the ball. He was part of the Palace side that won the FA Cup in May, their first ever major piece of silverware.
He has been called-up several times by England, but injury has prevented him from adding to the one senior cap he has earned so far.
