Newcastle United are ready to meet Chelsea’s price for striker Nicolas Jackson.

The Magpies are looking for a replacement for Alexander Isak, with the Swede publicly agitating for a move to Liverpool. Although they have rejected one bid for the striker, Liverpool are expected to return with a higher bid in a transfer saga that has lasted weeks.

Jackson himself has been told that he can leave Chelsea, who have already signed Liam Delap and João Pedro this summer, and need to achieve a positive balance on their transfer dealings from their summer business to meet a UEFA-imposed requirement.

Although Chelsea initially were hoping for ₤80 million for Jackson, they realise that is unrealistic, and instead have put a valuation of ₤60 million on his head.

With Newcastle not prepared to allow Isak to go unless they have signed a replacement first, the timetable for Jackson’s departure may become foreshortened.
