Arsenal’s hopes of signing Eberechi Eze before the window closes have been given a boost after the South London club lost their appeal against demotion from the Europa League.

They had qualified for that competition by winning the FA Cup, but will now play in the Europa Conference League, with Nottingham Forest taking their place after being found guilty of breaching UEFA’s club ownership rules.

And the impact of playing in the lesser competition could have a financial impact as great as ₤20 million.

With manager Oliver Glasner already unhappy about the club’s summer transfer window, funds may now need to be raised by the sale of assets, with Marc Guèhi also linked with a move away, in his case to Liverpool.

Tottenham are also interested in Eze, but, from the player’s side, he has made no secret of his desire to return to the club that rejected him as a schoolboy.
