Arsenal have agreed a fee to sign a striker. But it is not Viktor Gyökeres, Benjamin Se ko, Ollie Watkins or any of the other big names they have been linked with this summer.

Instead it is 17 year-old Will Wright who currently plays for Salford City in League Two.

Liverpool were thought the favourites to sign the teenager, but now Arsenal have stepped-in having sent a scout to watch him in a pre-season game against York City last week.

Wright had seemed set for a move to Anfield after they offered ₤100,000 plus add-ons for him, but Arsenal have now offered ₤200,000 which has been agreed with his club. Salford City are now majority owned by former Manchester United player Gary Neville, and he would prefer not ot see one of his brightest young talents join one of his great rivals from his playing days.

Personal terms have yet to be agreed with Wright, but discussions are set to continue in the nexy few days.
