Chelsea have opened talks with AC Milan about signing their goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The 29-year old has been valued at ₤25 million by the Italian club, but Chelsea do not want to pay that and are trying to negotiate a lower fee.

Maignan has been a regular for the Serie A side since joining them from Lille on a five year deal in 2021. He also inherited the French number one jersey on Hugo Lloris’s retirement and, since making his debut in 2020, has won 30 senior caps for Les Bleus.

He has one year left on his current deal in Milan and is reported to be interested in a switch to Stamford Bridge and the Premier League.

Goalkeeper has been a problem position for Chelsea ever since Petr Cech left the club. The present incumbent Robert Sanchez made a number of high profile mistakes, but number of the alternatives were reliable either.
