Chelsea have accepted a bid from Lazio for midfielder Casadei, who is set to return to Italy for a fee of €12 million (₤10.2 million).
Casadei had been in a bidding war for the Italy under-21 international with fellow Serie A side Torino, but their most recent offer tipped the scales in their favour.
The deal includes a 25% sell-on clause which might benefit Chelsea in the future.
The exact structure of the sale has yet to be finalised, including how much Chelsea will receive upfront.
Casadei had come through the youth academy at Inter Milan before making the switch to West London in the summer of 2022. However, like so many of their signings from that earlier period of the Todd Boehly – Clearwater Capital ownership, who failed to get any regular playing time, with his six appearances for the Blues this season all coming in the Europa Conference League.
