Despite being well-stocked in almost every areas of the field except forward line, Chelsea’s appetite for buying and selling players remains undiminished.

Now it appears that they are targeting a new right-back amidst continuing concerns bout their club captain Reece James to stay fit.

The 24 year old has struggled since sustaining a knee injury playing in a Champions League match in 2022. That ruled him out of the World Cup that year, and, when he did return to action, he suffered a recurrence which saw him condemned to more time in the treatment room.

And now it seems the club’s patience may have run out, with the fact that he is also the highest earner left at Stamford Bridge another reason to consider moving him on elsewhere at the next opportunity.

Two names that have been suggested as alternatives are Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen and Jules Koundé of Barcelona, although there are a number of others in the frame, with the emphasis being placed on youth by their recruiting team.
