Whilst Conor Gallagher’s future at Chelsea took a back seat whilst he was involved with the Euros, it is likely to come into focus once more.
His current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in less than a year now, and there has been no suggestion that, if a new deal is on the table, any progress has been made in agreeing to it.
That means that his exit is the most likely outcome before the end of the transfer window, and, although it was initially Premier League clubs that were most heavily linked with him, especially Tottenham Hotspur, now Atlético Madrid are emerging as favourites.
They have already made one bid of ₤18 million last month which was rejected out of hand, with Chelsea wanting more than double that.
However, they are expected to return with another offer, having made the 24 year old their main transfer target for the summer, with suggestions that the player himself may be keen on such a move.
