Liverpool maintain interest in Chelsea defender

Liverpool remain interested in a move for Chelsea defender Lewis Colwill should he become available.

The Anfield side spoke to the West London club about him last summer, and followed that up with a  further inquiry in the January transfer window.

The player himself was open to such approaches, before he was convinced to sign a new deal at Chelsea.

However, concerns about their ability to comply with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules may necessitate a change of heart among the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.

Selling an academy graduate like Colwill is attractive because it would generate pure profit in financial terms.

Whilst Chelsea’s public stance remains that Colwill is part of their future and he is not for sale, there is also the need to balance the books, and he could find himself one of several players who have ot be sacrificed for the greater good of the side.
