Gareth Bale is not prepared to take a pay cut in the final year of his deal with Real Madrid – even if he ends up leaving the club this summer.
The Welshman is currently o loan with Spurs, where after struggling with fitness for much of the season, he has suddenly found a rich vein of form, with four goals in his last three games, including two against Burnley on Sunday, as well as three assists.
The 31-year-old has put off a decision on his future until the end of the season, and is open to staying in North London. However, he is not ready to sacrifice his £600,000 a week wages that are due to him under his contract which still has a year to go, and Real will have to offer him a substantial pay-out if they want to get him off their books early.
That means that, if he were to return to Spurs again, Real would have to subsidise part of his salary again.
