Pep Guardiola has ended speculation about his future by signing a new two-year deal at Manchester City.

The 49-year-old Spaniard was out of contract at the Etihad, and there had been suggestions linking him with a return to former club Barcelona, although Guardiola insisted that his time in Spain was done.

But now he has committed himself to the Etihad which will come as a relief to both fans and players. It will also boost their hopes of signing the likes of Lionel Messi, with the Argentine making it a pre-condition if he was to consider a switch to the Premier League.

City Chairman Khalddon Mubarak said “everyone at Manchester City is absoultely delighted that Pep has extended his stay with us, and we wish him every success in the remainder of his time here”.

Guardiola has already spent longer at City than either of the previous two clubs he has managed, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and has won 181 of the 245 matches that the team have played under his tutelage, a win ratio of 73.9%.
