West Ham have been dealt a blow with the news that summer signing Andriy Yarmolenko could be set to miss six months of the season after sustaining an injury against Tottenham at the weekend.
Yarmolenko, a £22 million capture from Borussia Dortmund fell to the ground in agony mid-way through the first half, with no other players in the vicinity of him. He was carried off on a stretcher, and now comes news that he has suffered a ruptured Achilles and faces an operation this week, with a lengthy recovery period waiting for him after that.
The 28-year old Ukraine international had enjoyed a mixed start to his Hammers career, struggling initially this season along with the rest of the team, but then finding the net twice in a 3 – 1 win at Everton.
West Ham lost Saturday’s match due to a single headed goal from Erik Lamela, although that does not tell the entire story of the match because Spurs owed their victory to their goalkeeper Hugo Lloris who produced a string of world-class saves to keep the Hammers at bay.
