Chelsea ready to jettison World Cup winner

He may be a World Cup winner but Olivier Giroud’s future at Chelsea is in some doubt following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri as manager.

The 31-year old French international only signed for The Blues from Arsenal in January, but soon established himself as first-choice for the club, ahead of Alvaro Morata, and helped the side to an FA Cup triumph over Manchester United in May, scoring 5 goals towards the end of the season..

Irrespective of that, however, Giroud’s place in the team is under threat with the impending arrival of Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus, and he has been linked with  a loan move to Atletico Madrid, who are looking to bolster their striking options.

However, despite these rumours, Giroud would prefer to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place, reports The Daily Mail, and is hoping that his Premier League experience and knowledge will persuade Sarri that he still has something to offer Chelsea.
