Luis Enrique out of the running for the Arsenal job

The Daily Mirror reports that the man considered, by some, as the favourite to succeed Arsene Wenger as Arsenal boss is now out of the running.

Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique was considered the favourite by some bookmakers, but has failed to make the cut, as the Arsenal board have trimmed their shortlist of candidates. The 48-year old Spaniard appears to have priced himself out of the reckoning, with a salary demand of £15 million a year, and a proposed transfer budget of £200 million to spend in the summer. In addition, some amongst the board would prefer to appoint a younger head coach rather than a big name.

That leaves former Arsenal players Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta still in the frame, alongside Max Allegri from Juventus and Monaco’s Leonardo Jadim.

Arsenal have announced their intention to have a new manager in place by the time the World Cup starts on June 14th.
