Swansea City manager pays the price of relegation

The BBC reports that Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal will leave the club at the end of the season, with his side virtually condemned to relegation to The Championship.

Swansea’s home defeat to Southampton, coupled with the precious point that Huddersfield Town earned from their 1 – 1 draw with Chelsea this week, means that the Welsh club will drop out of the Premier League for the first time in 8 years, unless they beat Stoke on Sunday and Southampton lose to Manchester City by a 10 goal swing.

Former Sheffield Wednesday Carvallhall had been expected to stay at the club, and preliminary discussions about a new contract had been held with him, but that has now all changed after he saw his side embark on a run of eight games without a win.

Swansea’s pain has been made much worse by the news that bitter local rivals, Cardiff City, are set to take their place in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship.
