Remarks by Chelsea manager Antonio Conte in the wake of his side’s Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Arsenal have lent more weight to suggestions that he will leave the club in the summer, as he took further aim at the Stamford Bridge board over their transfer policy, as reported by The Daily Mail.
He told reporters “From the summer, the club decides every player… for sure, I don’t have a big impact on the transfer market”.
Despite winning the Premier League title last season, Conte feels that the Chelsea hierarchy have failed to back him in the transfer market. He wanted Romelu Lukaku, but Manchester United beat them to it, and was interested in Juventus players Leonardo Bonucci and Alex Sandro but nothing came of either of those approaches.
Meanwhile, the club have been linked in the current window with approaches for the likes of Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and, more recently, Edin Dzeko, all of whom, while fine players, are not the marquee signings which Chelsea fans have come to expect.
Conte has been linked with a move to PSG who are widely expected to sack coach Unai Emery this summer.
