Arsenal have opened talks with Declan Rice about a new deal.

There is still two years left on Rice’s contract with the Gunners, with the option of a further year but the club want to ensure that the prime years of his career are set in North London.

Discussions are still at an early stage with no timeline for completion, but both parties are confident that agreement can eventually be reached.

The 27-year old has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe since his switch from West Ham in 2023.

He currently earns £240,000 per week but he can expect a substantial increase on that with his new contract.

Getting Rice to agree a new contract is in line with Arsenal’s strategy of ensuring the long-term futures of all their major players, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are among those who have signed new long-term contracts, whilst Leandro Trossard and David Raya have agreed to new terms on existing deals.
