Although Chelsea can be satisfied with their summer transfer business, there were still some deals they could not complete.
One of those was attacking midfielder Fermín López who they wanted to sign from Barcelona.
They had pivoted to López after deciding not to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig and made an offer close to ₤35 million for him.
Despite reports López was keen on the move, the transfer did not go ahead because Barcelona, who had no interest in selling him, just did not answer Chelsea at all.
That is despite the fact that Chelsea were prepared to guarantee a key role at Stamford Bridge to López, who discussed the potential move with the rest of the Barcelona dressing room, who also convinced him to stay.
