Chelsea have agreed a deal to sell defender Renato Veiga to Spanish club Villareal.

He has already travelled to Spain to complete his medical and the other formalities, and he is expected to sign a seven-year deal with the La Liga side.

The Portuguese international was one of those that Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca had deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, and he had been forced to train with the so-called “Bomb Squad.”

The agreed fee of ₤26 million also means that Chelsea have made a substantial profit on a player they paid FC Basel ₤12 million in 2024.

Veiga may consider that he was given few chances during his time in West London,  and last season he spent several months on loan with Juventus.

His departure means that Chelsea have raised more than ₤250 million from sales this summer, but they are not finished yet. With the need to fund moves for both Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho and still show a positive balance on their summer transfer dealings, more departures can be expected.
