Christopher Nkonku may end up staying with Chelsea until the end of the season.

The French striker was widely tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, having become a bit-part player under Enzo Maresca.

He had been tipped for a return to the Bundesliga and Bayern Munich, but that move appears ot be now off.

Chelsea wanted ₤43 million for the player, whilst Nkonku himself favoured a permanent move. However, Bayern were only offering a loan move, with perhaps an option to buy coming into force at some stage..

Personal terms between player and the Bavarian club had been agreed, but, unlike either side is willing to compromise on their position, Nkonku is likely to remain a Chelsea player, although how much game time he can expect is open to question.

He remains under contract under 2029, the flipside of Chelsea’s policy of giving players long-term contracts to help with their accounting.
