Chelsea have agreed a fee with Brighton to sign their striker João Pedro for a fee in excess of ₤60 million.

He is currently on holiday in Brazil, but is expected to cut short his vacation to fly to the USA, and to complete his medical and the other formalities. If all goes according to plan, he could be available to play for them in their Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras next weekend in Philadelphia.

Newcastle were also interested in signing the player and had two bids rejected before terms of ₤55 million plus a further ₤5 million plus in add-ons were agreed with Chelsea.

It follows hot on the heels of the news that Chelsea have also reached agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign winger Jamie Gittens. However, having already featured in the tournament for the German side, he cannot play for Chelsea in the Club World Cup.

Pedro was signed from Watford in 2023 for ₤30 million, and, in his two seasons on the South Coast, scored 30 goals and provided 10 assists in 70 appearances.
