Arsenal have made contact with Sporting CP about their Ivory Coast defender Ousmane Diomande.

They face, though, potential competition from both Chelsea and Bayern Munich over a player that has made a promising start to his career in senior European football.

Inevitably, also there will be speculation that he will be one of the players that Rúben Amórim will want to take with him when he eventually settles into his new job as Manchester United manager.

The 20 year old has a ₤66 million release clause in his contract, although, as ever in these situations, the Portuguese side accept that it is unrealistic to expect bids of that order of magnitude for him.

His current contract runs until 2027, and although he is aware of the growing interest in him from overseas clubs, is determined to stay ground, with his agent advising that Sporting is the ideal club at which to develop.
