Brazilian side Palmeiras have confirmed that that they tried to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal in the summer.
There were rumours toward the end of last season that the Gunners were open to selling the Brazilian international with concerns about his ability to stay consistently fit.
And, although he was regarded as a transformative signing when he first arrived from Manchester City in the summer of 2022, there has been a sense that the team has already evolved beyond him.
He has not scored in any competition since January, and is rarely an automatic starter under Mikel Arteta now.
Palmeiras has close links already to Jesus, as he started his career there.
However, it seems that the Gunners are not ready to give up on him yet, as they responded to the Brazilian club’s overtures with a firm no, and that there were no circumstances under which the answer would be anything different.
He is under contract at the Emirates until 2027.
