Chelsea are set to compete with West Ham to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Durán, with a possible move either in January or next summer.
The Colombian international has gained a reputation this season as a super sub, coming off the bench to score vital late goals, including the winner against Everton that is an early contender for goal of the season.
However, despite assurances given to him by Unai Emery – who refused to listen for offers for him in the last transfer window over game time – he is thought to prefer a move to a club where he would be a guaranteed starter.
Whether Chelsea are in a position to offer him that is another issue. Nicolas Jackson has been in good form so far for them this season, and has recently signed a contract extension.
Meanwhile Christopher Nkonku is also competing for a place in the starting line-up.
