Former goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that he came close to rejoining Arsenal.
The Polish international spent 8 years with the Gunners, although he left under something of a cloud, caught by coach Steve Bould smoking after a defeat at Southampton, where he had been at fault for two goals.
He went on to have a highly successful career in Italy, first with Roma and then with Juventus, for whom he played more than 250 games in all competitions. The Pole won three Serie A titles and three Italian Cups during his time in Turin.
Szcznesny was offered the chance to return to London earlier this summer as understudy to David Raya, and admits that he had sentimental reasons that made him consider it.
However, he changed his mind because of logistics and, although he was then offered a deal by a Saudi Pro League club, decided instead to retire from the game at the age of 34, claiming that he had achieved all that he wanted from the game.
