Atlético Madrid have told Chelsea that they want to conclude the transfer business between the two clubs by the middle of next week.

They are hoping to sell Portuguese forward João Felix to the West London club, and acquire England midfielder Conor Gallagher in return.

Gallagher flew to Madrid earlier this week in order to complete his move but returned to Stamford Bridge when the two sides failed to reach a final agreement, and has since been forced to train with the reserves.

Chelsea have every incentive to get the Gallagher sale done because it will help them meet their financial fair play objectives, as his disposal will count as pure profit in their books because he is an academy graduate.

August 21st is a significant day for the Spanish club because that is when they will open their stadium to their fans to show off their summer signings, including Julián Alvarez, whom they have bought from Manchester City.
