João Félix could be set to return to Chelsea, this time on a permanent basis.
The Portuguese international spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Stamford Bridge, scoring four goals in 20 appearances.
Last season, he went on loan again, this time to Barcelona, but he is now back at Atlético Madrid, his parent club, who paid ₤113 million to Benfica for his services back in 2019, making it the fourth most expensive transfer of all time. He has struggled to ever justify that price tag.
He featured for the Madrid club in pre-season, but his future with them remains less than certain.
Atlético and Chelsea have already done business this summer, with the Spanish club expected to sign Conor Gallagher, but another deal, which would have seen striker Samu Omorodion head the opposite way seems to have hit insurmountable obstacles.
Félix has also been linked with a move to Aston Villa this summer.
