Whilst Riccardo Calafiori seems set to become an Arsenal player, it appears not everybody in the Gunners’ hierarchy are convinced about the merits of signing him.
In the first place they point to his injury record.
In 2018 he suffered a serious knee injury that was potentially career ending and he was out of the game for nearly two years. Although he has since fought his way back to full fitness, they point out to what has happened to Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu who was also signed from Bologna during his time at the Emirates.
He has struggled to stay fit for any prolonged period of time, with the Premier League more physical than Serie A.
There are also concerns that one good season with Bologna and several impressive appearances for Italy at the Euros is a small sample size to pay a fee of the order that the Italain side want for the player.
Despite this, Mikel Arteta is determined to go ahead with the move , and seems set to get his way.
