Chelsea are set to sign teenage striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona, after an agreement in principle over his transfer was reached between the two clubs.
The 18 year old will sign a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge which will run until June 20230.
Guiu is a product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy system, having been at the club since 2013. He has a release clause in nis contract of ₤5.1 million, which Chelsea are set to activate. He will then fly to London for a medical.
A Spanish youth international, Guiu made seven senior appearances for Barcelona, and his winner against Athletic Bilbao last October made him the youngest player to score for the Catalan club in his debut – he was 17 years and 291 days at the time.
Barcelona had hoped to groom Guiu to take over from Robert Lewandoski, but their financial situation means that they have to reconcile themselves to the fact that some of their best young talent might have to be sold to help balance the books.
