Manchester United have had their initial bid to sign full-back Kieran Trippier from Atlético Madrid rejected by the Spanish club.
The 30-year old helped Atlético win the league last season, despite serving a ban of two months after being found guilty of betting-related charges.
The Spanish champions are holding out for a fee of closer to £34 million for the 30-year old.
Trippier moved to Spain two years ago after signing from Spurs in a deal worth £20 million plus bonuses.
He began his career with neighbours City, although he never played a senior game for the club and made his name initially at Burnley.
Although normally a right-back, Trippier was deployed on the left- side of defence for England’s first game in the Euros against Croatia.
United are expected to increase their bid as they look for a player who can give them more options further up the pitch than current first-choice Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
