Jesse Lingard will be allowed to leave Manchester United on loan before the transfer window shuts next Monday.

The midfielder has fallen way down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and did not even make their 20-man squad for the FA Cup tie against Liverpool on Sunday.

Now having protected his value by getting him to sign a contract extension, they are prepared to sanction his departure for the rest of the current campaign.

There are a host of clubs interested in signing him, including Newcastle, West Ham, Spurs, Sheffield United and West Brom, and he has also been linked with moves abroad to Spain and France.

Lingard is hoping that a fresh start once more will boost his England hopes, with Gareth Southgate having made it clear to him that he needs to be playing regular football to be in consideration for a place in his squad for this summer’s Euros.
