Leeds United have signed striker Sam Greenwood from Arsenal in a deal that could eventually be worth £3 million once various add-ons are taken into account.
Greenwood came through the Sunderland academy system and joined Arsenal two years ago, scoring 10 times for their under-18 team.
That earned him his first professional contract with the club last summer, and was regarded as a major prospect, given some appearances at under-23 level, and training with the first team on a number of occasions.
However, he failed to settle in London, and wanted to return to the North of England.
He has signed a three-year deal with Leeds who have outlined a process to him whereby he can be fast-tracked into the first team at Elland Road, something which was not immediately on offer at the Emirates.
The Gunners, at least, have the consolation of having made a profit on the deal.
