Emery’s fate sealed as Arsenal begin process of identifying new boss

Arsenal have begun the process of finding a replacement for Unai Emery.

The beleaguered Spaniard suffered the latest embarrassment as Gunners’ boss on Saturday, as his side were out-classed for much of their game with relegation threatened Southampton, and had to rely on a very late equaliser from Alexander Lacazette to rescue a point.

Although the club publicly continue to back him, with supporters having turned on the former Sevilla and PSG boss, a shortlist of candidates to replace him has been drawn up, with names on the list thought to include Max Allegri and former player Mikel Arteta.

There have also been rumours linking Mauricio Pochettino with the job, but he is likely to be automatically ruled out of contention because of his association with Arsenal’s deadly North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Coaches Freddie Ljundberg and Steve Boult have also been rumoured to be in line to take over on a temporary basis.
